!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Taxpayers screwed, (mostly Black and Brown) athletes exploited, and now, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (Mike Webster’s disease). But hey: the game is safer than ever!

Now, let me go buy an expensive jersey and do some paid-for-by-me advertising for some NFL franchise.

Go ahead and hate me...

No hate. As a profit making BUSINESS it’s ridiculous the amount of shit they get away with too. I live in San Francisco and the town is an absolutely shitshow right now because of the Super Bowl BS....for a game that is being held in a town 50 miles away. Mainly a failing of the horrible idiots in city hall right now, but why the suck up to the NFL so much I don’t know. The tax payer is on the hook for millions of dollars of costs (police, emergency services, etc.) for some stupidly lame Super Bowl City tourist trap they’ve created (it’s dead. btw), let alone the ridiculous disruption to regular life in an already crowded city with notoriously horrible traffic. They argue that we’re making up for it with all the business tourists will bring - but guess what, those tourists would’ve come either way, so it would’ve been smart to negotiate for the NFL to at least cover such costs (like the actual host city, Santa Clara, did). Cities need to stop acting like these events are gods gift and start being prudent about their decisions that benefit nobody locally (except a mayor’s ego, maybe). As someone else had mentioned, they should just build a stadium in the desert outside Vegas and just hold this BS there every year so the rest of the country can just get along with life. Sorry, Vegas.

I live across the Bay. Too bad the Santa Clara 49ers didn’t make it into the game this year...

And the biggest screw you to the fans of all is that if you’re foolish enough to buy season tickets, and your team makes it to the Super Bowl, you don’t even get to go.

Just watched this a couple of weeks ago. It's amazing Brown got away with in that stadium deal.

A couple weeks ago, we were watching football, particularly the halftime show. They were talking about the teams moving to LA, and the construction of one new stadium that will be shared, at least for a time, by two teams. Howie Long was waxing about how important it is for cities to erect these glorious cathedrals to football, and about how the teams and the NFL stood to make so much money. And that’s the rub. The NFL blackmails cities with football teams, getting the cities and the taxpayers to crank out millions (or billions) of dollars for the prestige of having a major league sports team, but the only ones really making any money are the owners and the NFL. It’s a disgrace, and it happens in all the other major sports. Some cities are starting to push back, though. The NHL is trying to blackmail Calgary into building a new stadium, but the mayor is having nothing of it.
